Sovereign Supports Hurricane Maria Relief Efforts in the U.S. Virgin Islands

Sovereign Consulting Inc. has been contracted to support FEMA relief and recovery mission assignments for those in the affected areas of the U.S. Virgin Islands left devastated by Hurricane Maria. Sovereign is conducting recovery assignments and working with the U.S. Coast Guard and other stakeholders. Teams of personnel were mobilized to St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John to provide assistance and response work to the island coastal regions by assessing environmental impacts and potential threats to human health.

Over the next few months, the company will complete a variety of response and recovery assignments which involve coordination with local, state, and federal agencies, on-site response organizations, sampling teams, and clean-up contractors. Currently, Sovereign is embedded with the U.S. Coast Guard to provide assistance with locating and documenting sunken vessels that were swept away from their original locations by hurricane-force winds, flood waters and the associated hurricane storm surge.

Sovereign’s response efforts are being managed out of the Sovereign Cherry Hill office by Senior Project Manager, Greg Janiec. He brings 30+ years of experience and leadership, focusing on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, physical security, facility risk management, environmental programs, and hazardous materials management fields. “It is the first time that Sovereign is responding to an effort like this since Hurricane Katrina and we are proud of our staff who have volunteered to support those in need after this tragic natural disaster.” said Greg Janiec.
