On behalf of the Navajo Nation and a major chemical corporation, Sovereign is performing a study to determine the source of uranium at the Tuba City as landfill and off-site dump area. The project includes a groundwater investigation to determine subsurface geology and background water chemistry as well as characterization of the former tailings pond at the Department of Energy Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action (UMTRA) site up-gradient from the landfill.
Sovereign personnel are performing a radiation survey of an off-site dump that was apparently linked geochemically to the former UMTRA site. Sovereign conducted geochemical analysis of uranium ores from the Cameron Mining District to obtain fingerprints in support of the forensic investigation, which includes isotopic evaluations of radium and uranium.
