Indoor Air Quality / Vapor Intrusion

Quick Facts

  • Nearly 6 out of 10 Americans live in an area with unhealthy levels of air pollution
  • Chlorinated solvents are the leading causes of vapor intrusion issues
  • An average person takes 17,280 breaths in a day

Recently, regulations and property owners have refocused on the potential impact of releases to the environment and off-gassing of residual materials such as paints, glues, carpeting, and furniture on indoor air quality (IAQ). Sovereign offers IAQ solutions ranging from IAQ assessment in buildings, to design, installation, & operation of vapor intrusion mitigation systems.

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a key indicator of environmental health. Bioaerosols (mold and dust), PCBs, radon, methane, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other contaminants can pose health risks to building occupants. Additionally, compounds located outside of a building (in soil or groundwater) such as chlorinated solvents, VOCs, and petroleum products, can potentially impact indoor air through vapor intrusion. Sovereign has a staff of experienced scientists and engineers that provide a full range of IAQ and vapor intrusion assessment services. We work with clients and regulators to fully assess, identify, and delineate building conditions and IAQ parameters.

As regulations tighten and public awareness of IAQ and its importance for health increases, Sovereign has the knowledge and expertise to respond to IAQ issues, locate the source of the problem, and design a common-sense solution. Sovereign has performed numerous IAQ and vapor intrusion investigations for clients across several market sectors.

Our team assists facility managers in addressing and improving IAQ, ventilation, and comfort issues, respond to water damage and flooding to prevent mold growth, assess vapor intrusion at contaminated sites, design and monitor sub-slab depressurization systems, and conduct baseline IAQ testing prior to occupancy for new construction and renovation, especially for projects seeking LEED certification.
